If you’ve ever used Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Face ID, or interacted with a chatbot, you’ve interacted with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
what is artificial intelligence?
AI in simple words is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. AL is a wide-ranging branch of computer science that is concerned with building intelligent machines capable of performing tasks, learning, and reacting to simulate human behavior. While AI is an interdisciplinary science with multiple approaches, advancements in machine learning and deep learning, in particular, are creating a paradigm shift in virtually every sector of the tech industry.
The types of AL:
Artificial Narrow Intelligence: AI designed to complete very specific actions; unable to independently learn.
Artificial General Intelligence: AI designed to learn, think and perform at similar levels to humans.
Artificial Superintelligence: AI can surpass the knowledge and capabilities of humans.
Reactive Machines: AI capable of responding to external stimuli in real time; unable to build memory or store information for the future
Limited Memory: AI that can store knowledge and use it to learn and train for future tasks.
Theory of Mind: AI that can sense and respond to human emotions, plus perform the tasks of limited memory machines.
Self-aware: AI that can recognize others’ emotions, plus his sense of self and human-level intelligence; the final stage of AI.
Examples of Artificial Intelligence
ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology that allows you to have human-like conversations and much more with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist you with tasks and produces written content in various formats such as composing emails, essays, and code.
It’s currently open to use by the public for free because ChatGPT is in its research and feedback-collection phase. A paid subscription version called ChatGPT Plus launched at the beginning of February.
Google Maps
Google Maps utilizes information from mobile phones’ location and user-reported data about matters including car crashes and construction to keep track of traffic movement and decide which route is the
quickest.
Smart Assistants
Personal aides such as Siri, Alexa, and Cortana employ (NLP) are used by virtual assistants to take commands from users for setting reminders, searching the web, and managing smart home devices.
Snapchat Filters
Snapchat filters utilize machine learning algorithms to differentiate the primary focus of an image from its surroundings, monitor facial gestures, and modify the displayed image in real time based on the user’s actions.
Self-Driving Cars
Self-driving vehicles exemplify deep learning as they employ deep neural networks for object detection and identification, measurement of proximity to other vehicles, recognition of traffic signals, and a multitude of other tasks.
Wearables
The wearable sensors and devices used in the healthcare industry also apply deep learning to assess the health condition of the patient, including their blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and heart rate. They can also derive patterns from a patient’s prior medical data and use that to anticipate any future health conditions.
Meta
Whether it’s Messenger chatbots, algorithmic newsfeeds, photo tagging suggestions, or ad targeting, AI is deeply embedded in Meta’s Facebook platform. Facebook is already using a combination of AI and human moderation to combat spam and abuse. With breakthroughs in image recognition and a doubling-down on AI research, Meta is counting on artificial intelligence to monitor its media platform.
Robot vacuums
We all have to clean, right? So, robot vacuums are a great example of AI affecting everyday life. The Roomba 980 model vacuum (the one that cleans your floor on its own) uses AI to scan a living area’s size, look for objects that might be in the way, and remember the best route for cleaning the carpet.
The vacuum bot can also identify how much cleaning it needs to do based on the size of the room, repeating a cleaning cycle three times in smaller rooms or cleaning twice in a medium-sized room.
